English Snails 2 - Bathtime

I gave the snails a quick bath and a bite to eat.

Nice and clean:

Oi! Stop trying to escape!

Coincidentally the day after I caught my snails, Gordon Ramsey had a segment on his programme about eating snails from his garden. Here’s his recipe for pan fried snails.

Updates:

Here’s a newspaper article about a guy in San Francisco who serves garden snails at dinner parties. Apparently he cooks hundreds of them at a time - not sure where he gets hundreds from though.
Photographs of a mad bloke who’s breeding hundreds of the buggers. He’s got one, called Nancy, which appears to be a roman snail.

I told you! They knew you were going to eat them….Oh poor thing.

Is not too late you could put them back to the garden.

    Richard,

A cooking challenge, should you dare to accept it.

What can you do with SOBA noodles?

My Frenchie cooks them in chicken stock and eats them like pasta. It’s damn good. Can you do better?

(Will be hosting an invented dish competition - soon-ish)

It is a bit like having 10 needy children. There is one who thinks he is living in Stalag Luft. He keeps trying to escape, and worse still he leads the others on to escape too … And I need to clean up after their poo poo and feed them all the time.

Anyway, on Sunday they are going into starvation, and then next Tuesday I am going to finally eat them. At last. Looking forward to it.

Pasta is pretty easy (http://www.cookingwithrichard.com/2006/06/18/how-to-make-spaghetti/), and when I was in Japan I made soba noodles. I\’ve no idea how to cook with them though, that\’s N-sama\’s job.

(http://www.cookingwithrichard.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/08/making-soba.jpg Picture of me making soba noodles with a chef character)

Invented dish competition … sounds bloody hard. I\’m really no good at doing anything beyond simple recipes.

    Rich.

    (\’\'\’\'\’\'\’\'\’\'\’\'\’\’ = stupid bug in PHP/WordPress/MySQL. I wish they\’d used a proper language & a proper database)

Actually, I had escalgot @ a rocal restaurant in Paris years ago.
Although I encouraged people at table to share the dish, they only to turn down my kind offer pigheadedly. Then, I never missed their facial expression, implying “that’s not what human beings eat!”.
    (They were Frenchies, mind you)

    Taste was quite good though!
